The spread of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) also known as the novel coronavirus, in spite of the significant steps taken by various countries to prevent the transmission, have initiated the need for us to take the necessary steps in this regard.

The needed Actions to Ensure that You do not Get Infected by COVID-19 are:

  1. Washing your hands regularly with soap and water or sanitizing it with hand sanitizer with at least 60% of alcohol in it, for at least 20 seconds can help prevent you from getting infected. People should wash their hands or sanitize after every time they cough or sneeze or blow their nose or touch any common surface of contact.
  2. Avoid touching face, nose or mouth with unwashed hands. This limits the spread of germ transmission and prevent you from getting infected. Throughout the day, our hands come in contact with many surfaces that might contain particles of the novel coronavirus, as according to various researches, SARS-Cov-2 can remain on certain surfaces for more than 3 days, and also for almost 10 minutes in the air around them.
  3. Maintain social and physical distancing of at least 1-2 feet, even in your homes especially with those who are older, unwell or have symptoms of the virus.
  4. Do not sneeze or cough in public and maintain at least 6 feet distance from the person who sneezes or coughs. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), a person must stay at least 6 feet away from the person who is coughing or sneezing. The person infected with COVID-19 if sneezes or coughs, the droplets of his/her saliva leave their mouth containing the virus, which if reaches other persons mouth, nose or eyes, ends in infecting them.
  5. Being at home, a person should keep all the surfaces clean including switches, doorknobs, handles or countertops. While doing so, using water and a household detergent would suffice.

If a person in the household develops COVID-19, they should follow these steps to prevent the transmission:

  • Try staying in separate bedroom.
  • Wear facemask while coughing or sneezing.
  • Do not share your food or drink.
  • Try using a separate bathroom if possible.
  • Clean or Disinfect the bathroom surfaces after leaving.
  • Wear hand-gloves while trying to disinfect any shared surfaces.

These simple steps can prove to be a great step in reducing the transmission and preventing further spread of the disease. In case a person experiences any symptoms, they should immediately seek medical help and stay in isolation till they are finally cured.
